Why would/ how do people become addicted to things like astrology, tarot, and numerology?

I think there are two types of “addiction” involved:

The first is simply a fascination with it and all the goodies you can buy (Tarot decks etc). I probably fall into this category!:-) For some people, it is shoes and handbags, for others sex/drugs/alcohol/chocolate/TV, for others it is Tarot cards. We enjoy them and like the way they make us feel. I prefer to think of myself as a Tarot collector and enthusiast.

The second is where people stop thinking for themselves and use horoscopes and Tarot readings to make all their decisions. They stop making their own decisions and taking responsibility for their choices. They become paralysed, afraid to make a wrong choice (there is no such thing, we learn the most from “bad” choices). They give away control of their lives. They spend too much money on psychics and Tarot readings because they are looking for a promise of love, happiness and fortune. They forget what role they play in getting these things. They want it all to come easy. They keep on at it until they get the answer they want to hear! This is very sad and very unhealthy. These can be wonderful tools for gaining spiritual guidance to make better choices but they can definitely also be abused.

The line is drawn where these things have a negative effect on your health and/or your relationships with loved ones and you are unable to stop even though you know there will be serious negative consequences.
