The Pope And The Lovers Cards – Arcana Major V And Vi
The Pope – Tarot Card Number V
The character represented on this Tarot card is an old man, symbolizing purity.
The accessories of his clothing are divine material and intellectual world symbols.
The furniture of his palate represent the moral law, the free will.
The symbols of seven traditional planets (the Moon, Jupiter, Venus…) are drawn on his crozier.
Basic significance of the Pope card:
In the right position, this Tarot card represents indulgence, wisdom, protection, kindness, being devoted to traditions.
In the reversed position, this Tarot card symbolizes cowardice, frivolity, lack of conscience.
Example:
A mother wants to know if her child; who wants to become lawyer and will study at the University; will succeed. In fact, she worries in front of his lack of enthusiasm and the kind of people he meets.
Four major arcana are pulled: on the left is the Strength, on the right is the Pope, at the top is the High Priestess and at the bottom is the Fool.
The Strength card means that this teenager has the capacity to study very well and succeed but the Pope, in a negative position means that the child does not have this kind of thoughts in this moment, the High Priestess at the top represents his mother and her questions and the Fool at the bottom teaches us that if the child continues on his impetus, he will not do anything good.
The synthesis of these cards is number 4, the Emperor and means that the teenager will obey his parents when they will become conscious of their authority.
The Lovers – Tarot Card Number VI
Do not think that “The
1000
Lovers” card means systematically “Love”.
The principal character this Tarot card represents a young man surrounded by two young women.
The first woman seems to be rich and tries to take him along towards the richness; the second seems to be poor and wants to convince him to follow her.
Cupid, at the top of the Tarot card takes care of this young man’s choice.
This Tarot card symbolizes the choice, the free will.
Basic significance:
In the right position, The Lovers represents love of beautiful things, the choices, youth, discovery of love…
In the reversed position, The Lovers represents selfishness, instability…
Example:
A consulting person wants to know if her fiance will decide to marry her because he always seems to avoid this subject.
Let’s pull four major arcana: on the left is The Empress, on the right is The Justice, at the top is The Sun and at the bottom is The Lovers card.
Interpretation: The Empress reveals us that her fiance loves our consulting person very much, but The Justice in a negative position means that something related to Justice blocks the situation (is this man already married, not divorced yet, is he a foreigner and does not have a residence card, etc).
The Sun card represents our consulting person and her question (The Sun is happiness) and The Lovers teaches us that her fiance does not know what to do, hesitates but will probably make the good choice.
The synthesis is 9. The 9th number is The Hermit arcana. It confirms that her fiance is a discrete person, he requires time to make his decisions, to tell the truth to our consulting person about his situation.

Strength depicts a woman usually in the act of opening a lion’s mouth. The figure eight which is the tarot symbolism for eternity is drawn over the woman’s head in the form of a hat.
What the woman is doing requires courage and certainty. The tarot symbolism of the human figure is the conscious mind coming to terms with our instinctive animal natures. The woman is taming or controlling these forces which lurk deep with in us all. This card is ruled by Leo which rules the fifth house of the zodiac. Positive attributes of Leo includes honesty, generosity, loyalty and reliability. It is this fixed sense of purpose combined with high ideals which pervades Strength.
In a tarot card reading, when you draw the Strength it has nothing to do with force or violence. This kind of Strength comes from a generous loving heart.
The tarot card meaning of Strength is that you have the courage of your convictions and will triumph over hatred, miserly attitudes and mean spirited enemies. You are filled with faith, power, optimism and a firm resolve will enable you to win through in any situation.
The other tarot card meaning of Strength is you may be the fortunate recipient of liberality, generosity and fair judgment. You will encounter someone who will fight on your behalf. This person can not stand by and see injustice and cruelty without trying to put things right. Such people will not acknowledge defeat or negativity and their considerable will power and energy will inspire you.
Another important tarot card meaning of Strength is reconciliation. If you have been involved in unpleasant dispute or have experience antagonism from others you will be able to resolve things now. Strength overcomes dark forces with power of love, resistance crumbles and you are reconciled with your enemies.
A beloved pet-animal could enter your life is sometimes another tarot card meaning of Strength. You will gain great pleasure from association and find the animal a soothing and healing influence. Animals love unconditionally, they do not judge you and find you wanting. This is the kind of love symbolized by this card.
